Статья представляет собой анализ «Коро Кико» («Дневник морского путешествия в Россию») - дорожных записей Мори Аринори (1847-1889), первого министра просвещения Японии (1885-1889), составленных им во время поездки в Санкт-Петербург летом 1866 г. Данный документ представляет важное исследовательскую значение, поскольку он позволяет понять суть представлений о России в японском обществе и механизма их формирования в период бакумацу (1853-1869) на самом раннем этапе развития русско-японских отношений.

The article contains the analysis of “Koro Kiko” (“Diary of a sea trip to Russia”) - the travel notes of Mori Arinori (1847-1889), the first minister of education in Japan (1885-1889), written by him during his travel to St. Petersburg in summer 1866. This document is of an important research value because it allows to understand the idea about Russia in the minds of Japanese society and the mechanism of its formation during bakumatsu period (1853-1869) at a very early stage of Russian-Japanese relations development.
