<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>This article discusses the role and place of some of the problems of the historical past of Japan's relations with the neighboring countries, including the issue of formal apologies, the problem of comfort women”, as well as visits by the Japanese officials to the Yasukuni shrine. The article argues that diplomatic, economic, cultural and other contacts with China, Japan and the Republic of Korea face great difficulties because of the lack of progress in settling these problems. Detailed analysis addresses the causes of the present complicated situation, including those connected with the differences in the approach of Japan and its East Asian neighbours towards the historical legacy of the Second World War, as the phenomenon of “time lag” in raising these issues in the international political agenda.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Проблемы исторического прошлого</kwd><kwd>комплекс виктимности</kwd><kwd>официальные извинения</kwd><kwd>учебники истории</kwd><kwd>визиты в храм Ясукуни</kwd><kwd>заявление Мураяма</kwd><kwd>лозунг «покончить послевоенным режимом»</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>«женщины комфорта»</kwd><kwd>The problems of the historical past</kwd><kwd>the complex of victimacy</kwd><kwd>“comfort women”</kwd><kwd>official apologies</kwd><kwd>history textbooks</kwd><kwd>visits to the Yasukuni Shrine</kwd><kwd>the Murayama statement</kwd><kwd>the slogan of “ending the post-war regime”</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Moore Gregory J.
